The Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University is calling for applications for the admission of foreign students in its undergraduate curriculum in various music performance specializations.

Located in Corfu, Greece, is a leading center for higher music education and research. Since its establishment in 1992, the department has developed a comprehensive academic profile that combines tradition with innovation. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs across a wide range of musical fields, including classical performance, composition, jazz, music technology, musicology, ethnomusicology, and music education.

The degrees awarded by the department are considered equivalent to those awarded by European and American Institutions, Conservatories, Music Academies and University Music Departments.

According to article 58 of law 5094/2024 (A' 39), which added article 70A to law 4957/2022 (A' 141), "The Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) of the country, by decision of the Board of Governance (BOG), following a proposal from the Rector and the opinion of the Dean of the respective School, may enroll foreign students from third countries in the School or Departments."

SPECIALIZATIONS

The Board of Governance of the Ionian University, during its 22nd meeting, which took place on Monday 21/07/2025, decided on the announcement for the admission of foreign-alien students to the Department of Music Studies, in the Music Performance specializations:

  1. ORCHESTRA INSTRUMENTS (violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet)
  2. GUITAR
  3. VOCAL STUDIES
  4. PIANO
  5. MUSIC ENSEMBLES CONDUCTING (Orchestra, Choir, Children's, School and Youth Choir)
  6. JAZZ INSTRUMENTS (saxophone, piano)
  7. EARLY MUSIC (harpsichord, viola da gamba, recorder, flute)

NUMBER OF ADMISSIONS

For the academic year 2025-26, it is planned to admit a total of 12 students

TUITION FEES

The tuition fees corresponding to the total cost of studies are defined as follows:

a. For the categories of candidates (a) and (b) of par. 4 of article 58 of law 5094/2024 (A' 39):
Department of Music Studies, Direction of Music Performance: €5,000.00.

b. For the categories of candidates (c) and (d) of par. 4 of article 58 of law 5094/2024 (A' 39):
Department of Music Studies, Direction of Music Performance: €2,500.00.

CATEGORIES OF CANDIDATES

According to article 58 of Law 5094/2024 (A' 39), the categories of candidates are:

a) Foreign candidates who are graduates of a high school or equivalent school in a third country, based abroad, whose title entitles them to admission to higher education institutions in the country in which they graduate or in the country whose educational program the graduating school follows, provided that: aa) at least one (1) of the parents of the candidate students does not have Greek citizenship and ab) they have attended at least the last two (2) years of high school or equivalent school in a foreign country.

b) Foreign candidates who are graduates of a recognized foreign school from third countries, which is legally established and operates in the country, the title of which grants them the right to admission to higher education institutions, which are established in the country whose curriculum the said foreign school of graduation follows, provided that: ba) they and their parents do not have Greek citizenship and bb) they have attended at least the last two years of high school with full attendance.

c) Foreign candidates, graduates of high schools or equivalent schools of other European Union member states based abroad, who present a high school diploma or other equivalent secondary education qualification, which entitles them to admission to universities in the country from which they graduated or in the country whose educational program the graduating school follows, provided that: ca) at least one (1) of the candidates' parents does not have Greek citizenship, cb) they have attended full-time at least the last two grades of high school or equivalent school in a foreign country.

d) Foreign candidates who are graduates of a recognized foreign school from other member states of the European Union, which is legally based and operates in the country, the title of which grants them the right to admission to universities based in the country whose educational curriculum is followed by the foreign school of graduation in question, provided that: da) they and their parents do not have Greek citizenship and db) they have attended at least the last two grades of high school with full attendance.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

- The candidate must belong to one of the four categories of foreigners/non-Greeks, according to the above.
- The candidate must be successfully examined and be included in the lists of successful candidates that the Department will prepare after the completion of the selection procedures.
- For categories of candidates (a) and (b), possession of a certificate of sufficient knowledge of the Greek language at level B2 or higher is required. If a candidate does not have this certificate, they may register the year immediately following their admission, once they have obtained this certificate. Otherwise, the admitted person loses their right to register.

NOTE: The certificate of knowledge of the Greek language is not required:
a) if one of the parents of the applicant is of Greek origin,
b) if the applicant has a certificate of graduation from a Greek or Cypriot secondary school,
c) if the applicant has a certificate of graduation from a foreign school which shows that they have also been taught and successfully examined in the Greek language course.

The Department of Audio & Visual Arts is calling for applications for the admission of foreign students in its undergraduate curriculum. The Department aims at cultivating and promoting audiovisual expression through teaching and research on applications of the contemporary audiovisual technology in the field of art and mass communication.

Its strategic goals include teaching new forms of audiovisual expression, promoting scientific research on applications of contemporary audiovisual technology, processing sound and image as well as new artistic forms that are produced by these applications, and applying the acquired skills in the field of artistic creation and communication.
